Heritage 75

Join us as we celebrate Heritage75, a collection of unique, heritage-themed events to mark the 75th anniversary of the island’s liberation at the end of World War II.

We are delighted to offer a special three-night experience at The Duke of Richmond Hotel, giving our guests the opportunity to explore the island that inspired ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ in the company of Gold Accredited Guide, Gill Girard, and author Annie Barrows.

This offer includes three nights luxury accommodation in a beautifully appointed room or suite, traditional English or Continental breakfast each morning, complimentary use of the spa and a 10% discount on treatments, and the following itinerary inclusions:

Itinerary

Monday, 25th May

  • Welcome Champagne Reception at The Old Government House Hotel

Tuesday, 26th May

  • An ‘Evacuation, Occupation, Liberation and Potato Peel’ walk around the area with Gill Girard and Annie Barrows

  • Afternoon Tea at The Old Government House Hotel & Spa with a Q&A session hosted by Gill Girard.  Gill will chat to Annie Barrows about her aunt, Mary Ann Shaffer, and the book, as well to a local resident about life in Guernsey during the Occupation

Wednesday, 27th May

  • A visit to St James to view the Guernsey Tapestry followed by a coach tour of the island with Gill and Annie.  A picnic lunch is included

  • Meet Gill Girard, your guide for the day, who was born in Guernsey and has many stories to tell.  Our driver will take us down to the harbour to enjoy the spectacular views.  See how the medieval town developed around the busy port and hear its fascinating history.  Follow in the footsteps of character Juliet when she first ‘arrived’ and Dawsey showed her around the island.  Drive out of St Peter Port to explore the southeast corner of the island where the characters of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society book lived, see the cliffs and flower-filled lanes of St Martins, and the Little Chapel nestled in the valley made of ‘shells, broken china and smashed pottery’ by a dedicated French monk. We will then make our way from the southern parishes out to the West Coast to see the many German defence towers and bunkers

  • Gala Dinner in the stunning setting of The Regency Room at The Old Government House Hotel & Spa.  Enjoy a four-course dinner including paired wines, followed by an after-dinner talk by Annie Barrows

Thursday, 28th May

  • Check out and enjoy the island at your leisure
