There’s nowhere quite like the Channel Islands in the summertime. Their charming villages and beautiful beaches gives the Med a run for its money, and the fantastic fresh seafood provides the perfect light summer menus. Guernsey also presents a sensational line-up of festivals and fairs over the summer months, from live music to horticultural shows and traditional island events. When staying at The Old Government House Hotel or The Duke of Richmond, make the most of these unmissable cultural events in Guernsey this summer.
The small island of Alderney gets to rock out big-style with the annual Rock the Rock festival. One of Guernsey’s most popular annual agricultural and horticultural events, the North Show and Battle of Flowers showcases the best of the island’s livestock and flowers. Taking place in the leafy Saumarez Park, the two-day event sees local farmers present their finest Guernsey cattle, sheep and goats alongside a craft-orientated programme of baking classes and embroidery workshops. The infamous Battle of Flowers takes place on day two, where a cavalcade of colourful floral floats competes to be the best-decorated. Expect fireworks, fun fairs and much more.

Proudly holding the mantle of The Channel Islands’ longest running music festival, Vale Earth Fair is a Guernsey institution. Hosting an eclectic line-up of world music, this year the festival will be headlined by US hip-hop star Chali 2Na and British breakbeat producer Krafty Kuts. A cool festival, but one with a conscience: as the name suggests it’s an eco-affair and run by volunteers for charitable causes. Soak up some summer sounds in the grounds of the historic Vale Castle while doing your bit for the planet.
