Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a selection of some frequently asked questions about the Duke of Richmond for your convenience. All other questions can be sent to us using our contact us form.

What changes have you made during the Covid-19 pandemic?
Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our employees and guests is our most important priority. Please visit our Covid-19 FAQs page for a detailed explanation.

What is the check-in time?
We guarantee our rooms to be ready for guests checking in by 2pm. If you have an early arrival time, please advise our reservations team that you will be arriving prior to 2pm and we will aim to have your room ready earlier. If this is not possible we are happy to store your luggage for you and give you a tour of the hotel or directions into St Peter Port. 

What time is checkout?
On the day of your departure, please vacate your room by 11am. Please notify reception regarding a later checkout time if you require it.

Is a passport required for visiting Guernsey?
UK residents do not require a passport to visit Guernsey although all air and sea carriers do require some form of photo identification. If you are travelling from the continent direct to Guernsey you will need a passport. If you travel to Guernsey from the continent via United Kingdom you will also need a passport.

What major credit cards are accepted?
All major credit cards are accepted including American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay.

How far is St Peter Port from the hotel?
A 10 to 15 minute stroll downhill through the beautiful Candie Gardens.

How far is it from the Airport to the hotel and the St Peter Port to the hotel?
It takes around 15 minutes in a taxi from the airport to the hotel is between £15 - £20 and frequent buses are available. From the port it is a 10 to 15 minute walk uphill or a 5 minute taxi ride, which will cost you between £5 - £10. 

Is there a gym at the hotel? 
We do not have a gym, however, all of our guests have complimentary access to Beau Sejour, the island’s leisure centre. This is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. You can access the indoor swimming pool, gym facilities, exercise classes and sauna. 

Do you have an outdoor swimming pool? 
We have an outdoor heated swimming pool which is open 1st May - 30th September, 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week (weather permitting). Children are allowed provided they are supervised. 

Do you have a restaurant? 
Yes, our beautifully decorated Leopard Bar & Restaurant. We have an a la carte menu and bar menu, with certain items available for 24-hour room service. We also serve a wonderfully indulgent Afternoon Tea in our Conservatory and on the terrace if the sun is shining.

Can I bring my pet with me?
Pets are welcome at The Duke of Richmond by prior arrangement. Please note pets are not permitted in the Restaurant. Though a deposit is requested upon arrival in case of any damage caused, this will be returned to you at the end of your stay. Find out more about our facilities for pets.

Do all rooms have internet access?
Yes. The hotel and guest rooms all have WI-FI. Guest rooms are also equipped with two analogue telephone lines. This enables you to use the primary number as your direct telephone line and the second line for a fax machine or laptop computer.

How do I get to Guernsey from the UK mainland?
Guernsey is well served by flights and ferries from the UK and mainland Europe. Flights operate daily from London Gatwick, Southampton, Manchester, London Stansted, Exeter, Jersey and several other regional airports and there is a regular ferry service from Poole, Jersey and St Malo.

What is the local currency?
The Guernsey currency is pounds sterling. Local notes and coinage are interchangeable on the island with UK tender. (We still have £1 notes). Please note that Guernsey notes and coins cannot be used when back in the UK but can be exchanged free of charge in all major banks. 

What happens if I need medical treatment?
There is no reciprocal health agreement between Guernsey and the British Government. This means that UK residents travelling to the Islands will be charged for doctors visits and medical treatment within a hospital. Medical insurance is therefore strongly recommended.
